Description

A biological engineer, a beautiful young researcher named Syun Se, might have stumbled on a way to find anyone in the world on the basis of their DNA and the use of weather satellites that rotate around the earth. The Ministry of State Security (MSS) and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) catch wind of a possible breakthrough in the development of tracking technology but are not convinced of its authenticity. Apart from their doubts, the opportunity to gain ascendancy in the eyes of the Politburo makes it imperative that the competing agencies direct their attention to the research facilities where this work is said to have originated.
The newfound attention makes it difficult for Syun Se and her colleagues to carry out their research. In addition, an abusive lover makes it untenable for Syun Se to remain at Beijing University. She accepts a speaking engagement at McMaster University in Hamilton in order to escape from China. She realizes she has a limited time frame to use the Chinese government's interest in her work as leverage to obtain both her own freedom and that of her colleagues. Landing in Canada she is kidnapped by a low level criminal for hire retained by the MSS to hold her until their own operatives arrive to retrieve her. She escapes from her initial captor. In need of medical attention, she is found by a local greenskeeper, Ed Walls, a former military man. He, along with a colleague provides the lethal protection she needs to avoid capture by Chinese agents. During the ongoing course of events a number of intelligence agencies in Canada and the United States are drawn into the dragnet that has arisen as a result of Syun Se's departure from China. When her own colleagues at the university are held hostage in jail against her refusal to surrender, she realizes a more Machiavellian response is required. Together with her newfound Canadian advocates, she initiates a new plan in the hope of securing her colleagues release.
